Eastern Plains Conference releases All-Conference Teams

WORK HORSE: Washington running back Markel Spencer took home Eastern Plains Conference Player-of-the-Year honors on Wednesday.

The Eastern Plains Conference committee released its All-Conference selections for the 2014 football season on Wednesday.

The Pam Pack’s 15 selections were the most among conference teams and senior running back Markel Spencer was awarded with EPC Player-of-the-Year honors. Spencer finished with 2,152 yards rushing, averaging 7.4 yards per carry, and 27 touchdowns. Southwest Edgecombe running back Devontrell Hyman finished second in Player of the Year voting and was awarded Offensive Player of the Year for his 2,161 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns. Farmville Central senior middle linebacker Edward Davis took home Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors.

For special teams, Southwest Edgecombe won Punter/Kicker of the Year and Farmville Central’s Malik Smith received Returner-of-the-Year honors.

Washington’s Sport Sawyer was presented with EPC Coach of the Year for leading his team to a 14-2 record, a second-consecutive first-place EPC finish and Class 2-A state championship appearance, the first since 1956 for the Pam Pack.
