The body of a Belhaven woman who went missing last week was found Tuesday by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Deanna Perry Cauley, age 42, of Sidney Road, was reported missing by a family member on Tuesday. Prior to that, family members had checked at locations and with friends Cauley was known to visit without success, according to law enforcement officials.

Cauley was last seen in the early morning hours of Jan. 15, at a friend’s home on Old Pamlico Beach Road West, according to Lt. Wesley Waters, head of the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division.

Tuesday, two deputies began searching for Cauley near the residence on Old Pamlico Beach Road West and located the deceased on property adjacent to the residence, Waters said.

“We didn’t really find anything to believe that is was anything other than natural causes,” said Major Charlie Rose. “But we’ll know a whole lot more after we get the findings back from the autopsy and toxicology.”

Waters said the investigation is ongoing.
