MARVIN LEROY BOYD

Aug. 6, 1926 – Feb. 11, 2015

 

Mr. Marvin Leroy Boyd, age 88, a resident of 1135 Creek Road, Bath, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Everetts Church of Christ, conducted by Dennis R. Davis.  Burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery, Peninsula Drive, Bath.

Mr. Boyd’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers:  Kain Ross, Blane Boyd, Marvin Boyd, Jr., Cole Boyd, Seth Boyd, and Bryan Boyd.

Mr. Boyd was born in Beaufort County on August 6, 1926. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Boyd and Ellen Craven Cutler Boyd.  Mr. Boyd served in the Navy and Merchant Marines during World War II.   He was a retired farmer, barber, plumber, jack of all trades and a master story- teller.  In his spare time, Mr. Boyd hunted arrowheads.  He was a member and past deacon of the Everett’s Church of Christ.

On September 23, 1950, Mr. Boyd married the love of his life, Ethel Everett, who preceded him in death, May 12, 1993.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his sons, Barry Blane Boyd, Sr. and wife, Jackie, Marvin Anthony Boyd, Sr. and wife, Valerie, Colman Alan Boyd and wife, Amy all of Bath; his daughter, Pamela Faye Boyd of Pinetown; eight grandchildren, Kain Ross, Blane Boyd, Amie Craddock, Marvin Boyd, Jr., Cole Boyd, Seth Boyd, Brenley Boyd, Bryan Boyd; and eight great grandchildren, Clay Boyd, Colin Boyd, Luke Ross, Sally Ross, Israel Craddock, Campbell Boyd, Gabriel Boyd, and Hunt Ross.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by seven brothers, Leon, Felton, Winnie, Earl, Holmes, Grover, and Harold and two sisters, Ruth McGowan and Marie Cherry.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, February 13, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his son and daughter in law, Barry and Jackie Boyd, 205 Treasure Point Road, Bath.
