The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Beaufort County.
The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. this afternoon for Lenoir, Greene, Pitt, Beaufort, Martin and Washington counties.
Hazard types include light sleet and freezing rain gradually tapering off late this morning and early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Newport. Some lingering freezing drizzle will be possible this afternoon.
Light Sleet could accumulate with up to a half of an inch of total ice. Highest amounts are expected north and west of a Kinston-Washington-Creswell line.
Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will become ice covered and travel will become dangerous, according to the NWS. Freezing rain on trees and power lines may also result in scattered to numerous power outages.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and use caution while driving. Never use a generator indoors. Gas grills, generators and camp stoves create deadly carbon monoxide fumes that build up when used in your home.
