First Christian Church to hold Ash Wednesday service

FILE PHOTO | DAILY NEWS CONTINUING TO WORSHIP: First Christian Church will host its Ash Wednesday service today at 7 p.m. at the Temple of Jesus Christ Worship Center, located at 810 Hackney Ave. in Washington. The service will be one of scripture, song and prayer. Following a time of worship and a brief message, worshipers will be invited to spend time at prayer stations. The station themes will be water, oil, communion, ashes and memory. A prayer room with will be available where church elders will be present to confidentially pray with worshipers. At each prayer station, worshipers will read a scripture, reflect in prayer with guiding questions and respond with an action such as receiving communion, writing down burdens or receive the imposition of ashes. Worshipers will go to stations in any order, stay as long as they like and leave in silence when they are ready. Pictured is the communion table recovered from the April 28 fire that claimed First Christian Church. Since the fire, its congregation has remained strong and held services at both the Red Men’s Lodge and the Temple of Jesus Christ Worship Center.
