REIGNING CHAMP: Trey Corey, the top fundraiser in last year’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign, is participating in this year’s event, which ends Friday.

CHOCOWINITY — Chocowinity Primary School’s support of the Jump Rope for Heart fundraising campaign continues this week, with all donations due by Friday.

The event is coordinated by Therese Guard, CPS’s physical education teacher. Guard recently hosted a pep rally in the gym to kick off the event.

Among this year’s participants is the reigning fundraising champ Trey Corey, who was tops in the 2014 event. Trey lost his grandfather, Dennis J. Clark, in December 2012 when he died suddenly from a massive heart attack.

“When Trey heard of Jump Rope for Heart at school, he wanted to participate in honor of his Papa,” said the youngster’s grandmother, Mareece “Recie” Clark.

Through the generosity of family and friends, Trey raised $425 for last year’s campaign. Carson Dail was second with $305, and Conner Sweet was third with $283.

Chocowinity Primary School students collectively raised $4,298 last year, according to Guard. This year’s goal is $5,000.

Results of the 2015 Jump Rope for Heart fundraising campaign at CPS will be made available once all donations have been collected.
