In what has become an annual event for the Hyde County community, Music Across the Sound will return to Mattamuskeet High School on March 7. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., this free concert will feature musicians from mainland Hyde County, Ocracoke Island and eastern North Carolina. This year’s concert will mark the 12th year of this event.

According to producer Gary Mitchell (of Ocracoke Island’s Molasses Creek), the concert began in 2003 as a goodwill gesture following the devastation of Hurricane Isabel. In the interim years, the all-star variety show has become an attraction that draws audiences from beyond Hyde County.

Performers confirmed for this year’s concert include emcee John Golden, Molasses Creek, the Jobes Chapel Baptist Church Choir, April Trueblood and Raygun Ruby, Jamie Carter, Joe Spencer, Philip Howard, Ross Gibbs, Laura Jackson and Sydney Moore.

Seating for the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mattamuskeet High School is located on U.S. Highway 264 between Swan Quarter and Engelhard.

The concert is presented by the Hyde County Mainland and the Ocracoke Island Arts committees in cooperation with the Greater Hyde County Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call the Beaufort County Arts Council at 252-946-2504 or email info@beaufortcountyartscouncil.org.
