CRUISE IN: Classic cars, hot rods and trucks are all welcome at the upcoming Cruise In planned for March 8. The event is hosted by Down East Rods & Classics automobile club.

CHOCOWINITY — If it has tires and rolls, members of the Down East Rods & Classic automobile club would like to see it March 8.

That’s the date of the first in a series of Cruise In events hosted by the club at Hwy. 55 restaurant in Chocowinity.

“This is just a fun event to socialize and enjoy the afternoon,” said Larry Lang, the club’s new president. “It’s not just for classic cars; you can bring anything that’s special to you, so it can be a brand new car or an old car you’re still working on. If it’s special to you and you’re proud of it, come on out.”

Even trucks are welcome, Lang added. There’s no cost to participate and automobiles will not be judged during the Cruise In.

“This is going to be laid back, you can come and go as you like,” he said. “You can talk cars and get away from the real world for a bit. You’ll find something in common with someone there.”

Hwy. 55, located in Chocowinity’s Food Lion shopping center, is offering participants a discount to eat lunch during the event. The club will give away door prizes, as well.

The March Cruise In will run from 2 to 4 p.m. but subsequent events, planned for the second Sunday from April through October, are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The public is invited to come out and enjoy the display of automobiles, added Lang. He plans to bring along his 1955 Corvette, which once belonged to his father.

For more information about participating in the Cruise In, contact Lang via email at lakrlang@embarqmail.com.

Participants do not have to preregister for the event.
