Opal H. Stallings

 

Mrs. Opal Hodges Stallings, age 87, a resident of 487 Griffin-Hodges Road, Washington, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Bobby Hodges, Mac Hodges, Keith Williams, Jimmy Hodges, Churchill Hodges, and Steve Gorham.

Mrs. Stallings was born in Beaufort County on September 2, 1927.  She was the daughter of the late Leslie Waite Hodges and Emmie Boyd Hodges.   Mrs. Stallings attended Old Ford School and graduated from Washington High School and King’s Business College.  She worked at Kimbrell’s, Inc. in Raleigh and later as an investigator for Ford Motor Credit in Atlanta and Albany Ga. for 27 years, retiring in 1991.  Mrs. Stallings had lived in Raleigh, Quincy, IL, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Lake Alfred, Fla., Atlanta, and Albany, Ga. before moving to Washington.

Mrs. Stallings served as Chaplain for the Elks Auxiliary, was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi (where she had held all of the offices), and the Boys and Girls Club in Albany.  She was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ, Agape Sunday School Class, Circle #4, Old Ford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Beaufort County Grange, Beaufort County Humane Society and the Red Hat Society.  Mrs. Stallings served as a volunteer at Beaufort County Hospital for several years.

On January 29, 1949, she married Gillespie Carl “Bud” Stallings, who preceded her in death, September 11, 2013.

Mrs. Stallings is survived by two sisters, Treasure H. Edwards and husband, Roy of Chocowinity, Carole H. Raiford and husband, Jim of Newport News, Va.; four nephews, Bobby Hodges and wife, Betsy, Mac Hodges and wife, Meta, Les Hodges all of Washington, Keith Williams of Newport News, Va.; and her four legged son, Sampson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stallings was preceded in death by her brother Ben Hodges and his wife, Catherine and her “Special Children”, Captain Midnight, Fredrick, Eickels, Schnitzel, Rigsby, and Barney.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of her sister, Treasure Edwards, 143 Forte Shores Drive, Chocowinity.
