PAT LURVEY FLYING HIGH: Chapter 623 of the Woodmen of the World recently donated an American flag and a Christian flag to the First Christian Church of Washington. They replace ones burned in the fire of the 120-year-old church on April 28, 2014. The church is now worshiping on Sundays at the Temple of Jesus Christ Family Life Center on Hackney Avenue with a contemporary service at 8:30 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and traditional service at 11 a.m., while a new church building is being constructed. First Christian Church is most grateful to the Woodmen of the World for this contribution. Pictured above are left to right are Diana Mathiesen, chairman of Deacons; Ray Moore, moderator; Audrey Woolard, Woodmen of the World; Dr. Lance Perry, interim minister of First Christian Church; and Annette Jefferson, chairperson of the Worship Committee.
