OVER THE HUMP: Southpaw Adam Cahoon closed out the game on Thursday, as Northside picked up its first win in three games.

PINETOWN — A six run rally through the final two innings propelled the Northside baseball team to its first win over the season, a 8-3 victory over South Creek.

“It feels good to get that first win, especially with such a young team that we got,” said head coach Keith Boyd.

Using the three-pitcher combination of Chase Sauls, Zach Woolard and Adam Cahoon, the Panthers were able to hold an opposing lineup to single-digit runs for the first time in three tries. Sauls went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk, while striking out four. Woolard and Cahoon combined for four innings of work, limiting the Cougars to just one run. Woolard walked away with the win.

“Our pitching is coming along,” Boyd said. “We pitched three today and I can’t say enough about how well they did. We started Chase Sauls and did very well. Zach and Adam came in at the end there are really did a great job.”

Down early, Northside tied the game at two in the third inning after Rhys Alligood singled and stole second. An error at shortstop scored Alligood and Dalton Etheridge later drove in Nick Crisp.

South Creek took a one-run lead in the top of the fifth, but the Panthers went on a tear in the fifth, scoring four runs on one hit, two walks and a costly error.

Crisp finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Alligood notched two hits and an RBI.

“We keep evolving. We have some good senior leadership, but only have a couple of them. What we’re seeing is a bunch of sophomores and juniors,” Boyd said.

Northside will host Bear Grass in Pinetown on Tuesday.
