Farm hosts a spring celebration

CHOCOWINITY — Nathan Scott Taylor, nestled in the arms of the Easter Bunny, surveyed his surroundings patiently, his watchful eyes seeming to take in every detail of the festivities.

At two months old, the infant marked his first Easter by attending the Spring Celebration hosted Saturday afternoon by Raised In A Barn Farm in Chocowinity.

The festivities included a hayride and photos with the Easter Bunny, egg hunt, live entertainment and good food.

The celebration was an opportunity for folks to get out and enjoy a pleasant afternoon with their neighbors, said Jane Boahn, whose family owns the farm. Boahn pulled double duty, serving as event hostess and photographer as dozens of youngsters lined up for a photo op with the Easter Bunny.

Shoppers enjoyed browsing the farm store, stocked with everything from artwork to jams and jellies made locally. Guest vendors also set up booths filled with Easter baskets, crafts, collectibles, bath products and jewelry.

Appetites were whetted with plates piled high with pork barbecue, vegan sandwiches and baked goods.

And no visit to the farm would be complete without a close-up look at horses, goats, baby chicks and a rabbit.

“This is all around family fun,” said Tasha Foreman, who attended Saturday’s celebration with her husband, Jason, and the couple’s children. “It’s a great place for the kids to be, lots of stuff to see and do.”
