The Down East Seniors Club held their April 8 meeting at the Blind Center of NC in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America” and President Rumley gave the invocation. Dick Robinson and Dick Paul provided humor.

President Rumley announced that Arnold Koch, one of our members, died over the weekend.

Program Chairman Roger Tuttle introduced Mark Newsome, Beaufort County Finance Officer. Mr. Newsome has held this position since late last December. He reports to the County Commissioners and is responsible for all financial matters in county government except setting up the budget which the County Manager handles. Beaufort County finances are healthy. Regulations covering local government finance are set by the NC Local Government Commission. As a result of recommendations from the audit of county finances for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014, several temporary accounting positions will be created to set up additional internal finance procedures and controls.

Charlie Moore won the 50/50 drawing.
