SWING OF THINGS: The Tar River Swing Band will perform at the Turnage Theatre on Friday night.

The Beaufort County Arts Council will present the Tar River Swing Band in a special return engagement at the Turnage on Friday. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and tickets are available online, at the BCAC box office, by phone or at the door. The Tar River Swing Band (TRSB) has proven to be a local favorite at the theatre, and Friday’s performance will be their third since BCAC reopened the Turnage in January of 2014. Friday’s program will celebrate 15 years of swing music, featuring classic tunes from Ellington, Basie, Goodman and Dorsey, as well as contemporary big band sounds from the likes of Stan Keaton, Buddy Rich, Sammy Nestico, Les Brown and others.

TRSB consists of members who are now teachers, doctors, businessmen, church deacons, and a few retirees. But at the heart of it all, they are all musicians. The group shares significant performance credits with members of the band performing at various times with superstars such as Woody Herman, Clark Terry and Tony Bennett.

The BCAC box office will open at 6:30 p.m. and seating will begin no later than 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating is available and tickets are $18. For more information, call BCAC at 252-946-2504.
