TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Warner Little has career day for Pam Pack soccer

KENLY — Meredith College commit Warner Little had her most memorable day in Pam Pack blue and white on Tuesday in an 8-2 win over North Johnston.

The senior midfielder, who entered with nine goals on the season, finished with five goals and an assist, capitalizing off seven Washington corner kicks in total.

Senior Caitlyn Scott finished with two goals and an assist, while freshman Sydney Walker finished with a goal and sophomore Sydney Edwards notched two assists.

In net, Emily Alligood allowed two Samantha Richardson goals, but came through with 10 saves.

With the win, Washington improves to 10-4 (4-0 EPC) and will face Beddingfield in Wilson today at 6 p.m.

 

NORTHSIDE SOFTBALL FIGHTS OFF PAMLICO COUNTY, STAYS ATOP CONFERENCE

PINETOWN — The Northside softball team preserved its undefeated record Tuesday night at home, knocking off Pamlico County, 8-2.

Senior Kelsey Lang pitched all seven innings for the Panthers, overcoming a two-run first (one earned run) by holding the Hurricanes scoreless through the final six frames. She finished with seven strikeouts, while allowing just five hits (all singles).

Northside strung together an abnormal six hits, but control problems from the opposing pitcher resulted in five walks, which were ultimately the difference in the lopsided victory.

Kelsey Lang helped herself at the plate and finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs, while Taonya Stanley continued her hot hitting with a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly to bring her afternoon RBI total to four. Rachel Lang, Tiffany Oliver and Kendall Alligood each notched a hit apiece.

With the win, Northside improves to a perfect 13-0 (8-0 CPC) heading into Friday’s showdown with conference foe Bear Grass (2-7, 1-5 CPC).

 

PAM PACK SOFTBALL BLOWS BY FARMVILLE CENTRAL

Shutdown pitching from senior Haley Hutchins and a nine-run second inning resulted in a dominant 15-1 Washington win over Farmville Central on Tuesday.

On the mound, Hutchins went the distance in a shortened five-inning contest, allowing one earned run and just two hits, while striking out seven and walking three. Hutchins also finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Sophomore Jada Lodge also collected three hits, picking three RBIs. Meghan Moore, Chrissy McKissick, Allison Brantley, Brittany Norman, Jessica Evans and Haley Wright all recorded base hits in the blowout victory.

With the win, Washington improves to 10-3 (4-2 EPC) heading into Friday’s matchup with Southwest Edgecombe (9-4, 2-4 EPC).

 

NORTHSIDE BASEBALL CAN’T OVERCOME ROCKY FIRST INNING IN LOSS TO PAMLICO COUNTY

PINETOWN — A four-run first inning propelled Pamlico County to an 8-3 win over Northside on Tuesday.

Sophomore Brock Marsh was the only Panther to notch two hits, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Zach Woolard, Jensen Hawkins, Caleb Alligood and Nick Crisp all finished with a single apiece.

The loss drops Northside to 4-11 (2-6 CPC) and seemingly out of the Coastal Plains Conference race.

 

JONES SENIOR SOFTBALL WINS SLUGFEST OVER SOUTHSIDE

TRENTON — The up and down season for Seahawks’ softball team continued on Tuesday, as Southside fell to Jones Senior on the road, 17-10.

The Trojans opened the game up with a 10-run first inning, putting the visiting Seahawks behind considerably early. Southside chipped away, scoring four in the second inning, but Jones Senior answered with four of its own in the fourth.

With the loss, Southside drops to 5-5 (2-3 CPC) and will begin a two-game home stand on Friday, playing host to East Carteret (12-2, 5-2 CPC).
