ROBERT O. SMITH

May 12, 1935 — April 21, 2015

 

Robert Owen Smith, 79, of 352 Smith Road, Roper, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the home of his daughter in Jamesville.

Mr. Smith was born in Pantego on May 12, 1935, and was the son of the late Justus and Irene Jackson Smith. Retired from Boiler Machine Maintenance at Weyerhaeuser Corp., he was a member of New Beginnings Pentecostal Holiness Church in Plymouth, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robby Justin Smith.

Surviving are his children, Derrick Owen Smith of Roper, and Darlene Smith Sasser and husband Lee of Jamesville; his daughter-in-law, Vann Haskett Smith of Plymouth; a sister, Sarah Windley of Ellis Cove; a brother, Joseph Smith of Ocracoke; six grandchildren, Justin, Journey, Heaven, Luke, Helena, and Paul; and a great-grandchild, Jaden.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Sidney Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, 5580 Sidney Road, Belhaven, by the Rev. Dennis Barber. The family is receiving friends at Darlene and Lee’s home, 1820 NC 171, Jamesville.  Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
