Robert C. Gibbs

Aug. 27, 1930 – April 28, 2015

 

Robert Coleman Gibbs, 84, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2015. Born August 27, 1930 in Bath, NC; he was the son of the late Hermond Vigo Gibbs and Pearl Grace Spencer Gibbs. He served honorably in the US Air Force, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University and his Master’s Degree from UNC – Chapel Hill.

Robert held positions at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Florida libraries. He retired as the Associate University Librarian at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church of Raleigh, NC and had been a volunteer at the Triangle Literacy Council of Wake County.

He is survived by his wife: Nancy Jean Gibbs; sons: Robert Lane Gibbs and wife Mary Catherine Gibbs, of Alexandria, VA and John Coleman Gibbs and wife Dr. Geeta Malik, of Sonoma, CA; grandchildren: Ethan Lane Gibbs, Reina Alessa Gibbs and SohniKara Gibbs.

Robert was preceded in death by his brother: Milo L. Gibbs.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11 AM at Christ Church – 120 East Edenton St, Raleigh  – with family to receive friends in the church parlor following the service. Graveside Services will be held Saturday at 3:30 pm at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC with Paul Funeral Home assisting.
