Support for the aquatic center

To the Editor,

I am writing to express my support for the funding provided by the city for Parks and Recreation Department activities including the Moore Aquatic and Fitness Center and recreational sports leagues. Why? We all need to stay active to stay in shape. Also, visit sometime and see how much fun families can have together, spending a day outdoors watching sports and hanging out in a safe community atmosphere, or perhaps playing in the pool together. Even without the expense of longer-term membership, there are daily use options. Sports teams and clubs are great for the participants as they learn rules, cooperation, and have positive adult role models. Not only do they provide our children opportunities to play and compete, but also to apply for first real jobs as lifeguards or referees, or to volunteer their service to some of our special needs residents at one of the Special Olympics events.
I would like Washington to remain one of the coolest small towns in America, so even though I realize we are in tough budgetary times, I want our elected representatives to know that I am a registered voter who supports use of my tax dollars to fund the city pool and recreational sports leagues. Yes, be vigilant with our finances, but don’t be overly cautious about investing in our community.
