ANNIE MYRTLE NORMAN

Mrs. Annie Myrtle Cox Norman, age 93, a resident of 680 Norman Road, Blounts Creek, died Monday, May 18, 2015 at River Trace Nursing Center in Washington.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Chocowinity, conducted by Pastor Ronnie Gurganus. Burial will follow in the Esau Rowe Cemetery, Tripp Road, Blounts Creek.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Bill Arseniu, Hal Deans, Sandy Long, David Norman, Levie Norman, and Charles Smith. Earl Conner, Rudy Gilly and Robbie Jones will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Norman was born in Beaufort County on January 13, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Roderick Cox and Myrtie Jones Cox. Mrs. Norman was a homemaker. She was a member of New Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church (where she had over a decade of service to the church) and attended Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Norman was “a great cook” who loved to cook for other people including preachers and shut-ins. She was a babysitter for her grandchildren as well as many children in the neighborhood. In her spare time, Mrs. Norman enjoyed flowers, gardening and traveling especially to the mountains.

Mrs. Norman was married to Arthur Thomas Norman, who preceded her in death, March 25, 1987.

Mrs. Norman is survived by her son, Arthur “Preston” Norman and wife, Annie of Blounts Creek; daughter in law, Billie Gilly of Blounts Creek; seven grandchildren, Donna Deans, Carol Norman, Kathy Long, Jo Lynn Arseniu, Sheila Rowe, Levie Norman and David Norman; 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by three sons, Leroy Norman, Lester Reid Norman, Donald Kafer Norman; a daughter, Kathy Norman; a brother, Adrian Cox; and a sister, Lena Whitehurst.

The family received friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at her home.
