MEMORIAL DAY_01_WEBCOLOR GUARD: Members of Washington High School’s Jr. ROTC presented the colors at the Memorial Day celebration at Veterans Park in Washington. Sponsored by Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 48, and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Unit No. 48, a crowd of veterans, family and friends turned out for the annual affair. Featuring guest speaker DAV Commander and veteran George Balsh, who spoke about the definition of a veteran — a person who writes a blank check made payable to the United States of America, for an amount up to and including their life — and the need to express gratitude for those who have served and gave their lives serving the country. The program also featured live patriotic music, as well as a recording of a veteran-themed song by former City of Washington employee and U.S. Army veteran Bill Ebison, now deceased.
