First South Bank closed out what was a dominant Washington Youth Baseball T-Ball League campaign on Thursday with a 7-4 win over Jerry’s Automotive in the championship game.

With 5-6 year olds and T-ball comes hijinks and sandcastles in the field, but it was First South Bank that looked past the distractions and took home that hardware. The team not only won the T-ball league tournament championship, but the regular season title as well. Jerry’s Automotive proved to be the runner-up in both the tournament and the regular season as well.

The game lasted just three innings, due to a couple of offensive-heavy innings from First South Bank and the prearranged one-hour time rule that prevents games from keeping the athletes up past their bed times.

In the first inning, First South Bank came out gunning for the title. After Jerry’s Automotive struck for two runs off hits from Tripp Dunn, Coby Alligood, Avery Roberson and John Magana in the first, First South Bank exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jayden Bass, Paxton Baynor, Miller Tyson and Mac Munn all notched singles, while Anderson Thomas and Parker Byrd recorded back-to-back inside-the-park home runs. Nicholas Ambrose also smashed a double to the outfield, bringing the score to 5-2 at the end of one.

With slick fielding, First South Bank retired the side in the second, while Jerry’s Automotive worked its way out of a bases-loaded jam to end the inning unscathed.

Singles by Jerry’s Automotive’s Alyas Williams, Kipton Respess, Tripp Dunn and Coby Alligood cut the lead to one-run, but back-to-back triples by Ambrose and Tucker Massie opened the door for RBI singles from Baynor and Tyson, which put the game out of reach and activated the time rule.

First South Bank walked away with three medals — one for participation, a tournament championship trophy and a regular season championship trophy.
