From Beaufort County Community College

The Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees met on June 2 and appointed the following nominees to serve on the BCCC Foundation Board of Directors for terms beginning July 1: John Jones, Bill Wall, Bill Zachman, Jack Piland, Dick Barber, Trina Cobb, Laura Scoble and Zina Burbage.

They were appointed to three-year terms and will serve until June 2018, with the exception of Scoble, who will fill the remaining term of Radell Rasmussen, expiring in June 2017. The Board of Trustees received a slate of 14 nominees from which to make the eight appointments.

Piland, a resident of Bath, is a former employee of Abbott Laboratories and a pharmaceutical consultant. Barber is the president of Morris Insurance and also the current president of the Beaufort County Committee of 100. Cobb, a BCCC alumnus, served as president of the Student Government Association when she was a student and now works in the campus library. Scoble, a career musician and restaurateur, is the owner of Backwater Jack’s and Jack’s Tavern in Washington. Burbage is a paralegal at Rodman, Holscher, Peck & Edwards, P.A., and is active in the community through church and youth sports. Jones, Wall and Zachman are current members of the Board who were reappointed to new terms.

The Foundation Board assists with a variety of events to fund scholarships, emergency grants, campus enhancements and special projects for faculty and staff. For example, a funding campaign was recently completed to install a digital sign that will provide information about campus events, star students, services, job fairs, registrations, new programs and emergency warnings.

BCCC President Barbara Tansey, Foundation Director Serena Sullivan and the Board of Trustees extend their gratitude to those leaving the Foundation Board — Luther Davis, Sue Nicholson, Kendra Paiz, Jerry Waters and Radell Rasmussen — for their years of service. They have contributed greatly to BCCC and its students during their time on the board.
