Mary M. Winstead, age 90, a resident of East 12th Street in Washington, passed away on August 17, 2015.  Mrs. Winstead was born in Vanceboro, NC on December 19, 1924 to the late Thomas W. and Elsie Ipock Miller. She attended local schools and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1943. She also attended business school in Richmond, VA.

On March 29, 1946 she married Shelton Winstead, who predeceased her in August 2009.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Eloise McDaniel, Greta Davis and Thomas Miller.

She is survived by her children: Deborah Hall and husband Michael of Washington, Eddie Winstead, III and wife Libby of Sanford and Susan Dove and husband Barry of Orange, VA; grandchildren: Jessica Williams, David Woolard, Ashley Shaw, Laura Woolard, Rachel Anthony, Ed Winstead and Hill Winstead. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Winstead was an active lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Washington.

She was a member of the choir, served as WMU President and was a Sunday School teacher as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Winstead also served on the Coastal Carolina Council of the Girl Scouts of America for several years.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Robert J. Paciocco and assisted by Rev. Jimmy Moore. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Widow’s Mite at the First Baptist Church in Washington or the Salvation Army.
