Two men face fraud, larceny charges

On Aug. 6, at approximately 11:57 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a possible fraud at Southern Bank in Belhaven. Patrol deputies responded and learned the suspects had tried to cash a fraudulent check. Upon further investigation, patrol deputies learned of a breaking, entering and larceny at a residence on Pamlico Beach Road in Belhaven.

The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and as a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Jason Hill applied for and obtained warrants charging Zachary Burbage, 26, of Pine Tree Path in Bath and Stephen Foster, 27, of Wilkins Road in Belhaven, with one count of felony breaking and entering, one count of felony larceny, one count of identity theft, one count of uttering forged endorsement and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense each.

On Aug. 19, Burbage was arrested by deputies and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler. Foster is currently still at large.
