This weekend, there are a huge variety of events available for residents and those from the surrounding area.

Friday will mark the last Music in the Streets of the season, which will feature a lineup of mostly Christian artists. Also, in downtown Washington will be the annual Pig Parade that kicks off Smoke on the Water, the annual barbecue cook-off.

In Bath, Bath Historic Site will be hosting a series of historic walks through its grounds — Bath Towne After Dark. The walk will feature presentations about local history and historical figures that have lived in Bath.

Saturday will emerge as a day of food and fun, as the 18th annual Smoke on the Water festival will be in full swing. Among the main events slated for the day will be a barbecue cook-off, a chili cook-off, Dragon Boat races, a classic car show, live music by several acts and much more.

In Chocowinity on Saturday, Raised in a Barn Farm will launch its 3.2-mile haunted corn maze that will “make attendees wet their britches,” according to Mandie Boahn, farm manager.

And to wrap up what may be one of the most event-filled weekends in Beaufort County, 98.3 the Bridge FM will host four nationally known Christian contemporary acts at Festival Park in Washington. Among the acts are: the Afters, a four-piece band out of Texas; Chris August, the Dove Awards New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, who presents an incredible message of God’s healing; four-man band Unspoken, which features the current title track, “Keep Fighting the Good Fight,” for the new blockbuster War Room; and pop/rock band Among the Thirsty, formed in Clearwater, Florida in 2008.

This weekend in Beaufort County is quite unique to most. Yes, events are always going on and there is usually something to do. But there are very few times in which a weekend is packed this full of events that prove fun and appropriate for the whole family.

This weekend, take advantage of the local lineup of events. Come out and support local organizations that take the time to not only provide entertaining events in the area, but also create a draw to the area that brings tourism dollars, and in turn, a huge economic boost.
