AWARENESS: Messiah Barnes gets an outlet pass from a teammate to create an easy transition bucket. Terra Ceia’s team chemistry has been in the works for years and has made for an incredibly fun team to watch.

Any sports fan can sit down and enjoy watching what the Golden State Warriors are doing right now. The reigning NBA champions, led by superstar guard Stephen Curry, have been a joy to watch through the first quarter of the season. The team’s style of play is fun to watch. It’s effective, too, as the Warriors have made history with their perfect 23-0 start.

Part of their success stems from the team’s chemistry. That takes time and patience, and it can’t be bought with money. Teams have tried time and again in all sorts of sports to buy a championship team. Occasionally it works, but it fails more often than not.

That’s why the Warriors can be successful even when they lose key pieces like head coach Steve Kerr, who is currently sidelined due to offseason back surgery.

What the Warriors have going is a lot like what’s going on at Terra Ceia Christian School. The Knights are coming off a 24-5 season last year and building on it in spectacular fashion. They’ve rolled through every opponent en route to an 11-0 start. They’re scoring just north of 81 points a game.

A large part of their success has to do with the fact that this group has been playing together since middle school. The chemistry is visible on the court as each player knows where the others are at any given time.

It’s that chemistry that allows them to dazzle every time they take the floor. It makes for a fun game to watch when Tyler Hendrix is able to lob a ball to Messiah Barnes for a layup. Terra Ceia moves the ball with such precision, making each player on the court a scoring threat.

The Knights have Hendrix leading the charge, but also have three other potent scorers in Chase Furlough, Quentin Van Essendelft and Barnes.

That chemistry is a result of years of hard work from this core of players. Be sure to get out to Pantego some time this season and check out a game. You won’t regret it.
