Sheriff’s Office seeks suspects in crash case

On July 27, 2015, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received an agency assist request from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in reference to a DWI related traffic collision which occurred on July 24, 2015, near the 1000 block of Mill Road in Chocowinity. During the collision, three minor children sustained injuries and were nearly ejected from the vehicle after it began spinning out of control and flipped into a drainage ditch. The Sheriff’s Office additionally contacted the Beaufort County Department of Social Services regarding the incident.

During the investigation, it was discovered the parties involved had attended a social gathering where large quantities of alcohol were consumed. Investigators conducted interviews and gathered evidence. As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Jonathan Fowler applied for and obtained warrants charging Leketa “Keta” Lavone Gordon, of Bonner Street in Washington, Henry Lee Gordon, of East 11th Street in Washington, Jenisha Vmmecca Moore, of Charlie Lane in Chocowinity, and Verna Angelica Rodgers, of Willow Acres in Williamston with three counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury, and three counts of contributing to the delinquency/neglect of a juvenile. Both Laketa and Henry Gordon were charged with driving while impaired and other traffic related offenses by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

On Dec. 1, 2015, Laketa “Keta” Lavone Gordon was arrested by members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. She was presented before Magistrate D. Sadler and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

On Dec. 16, 2015, Henry Lee Gordon was arrested by members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,500 secured bond set by Magistrate E. Holmes.

Both Jenisha Vmmecca Moore and Verna Angelica Rodgers are still at large.
