On Jan. 1, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny from outside of a business on Old Bath Highway in Washington. Deputies learned a vehicle had been broken into and a purse had been taken.

Deputies learned the victim’s debit card had been used after the purse was taken. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence and conducted interviews.

As a result, investigator Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Kayla Nicole Villanueva, age 16, of Birchwood Drive in Greenville with three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and one count of misdemeanor larceny. Investigator Landeck also applied for and obtained warrants charging Jessie Ray Floyd Jr., age 16, of Clemmons School Road in Stokes with three counts of aid and abet obtaining property by false pretense, one count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and one count of misdemeanor aid and abet larceny. The property that was stolen was recovered.

On Jan. 13, a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle occupied by both suspects. Both Villanueva and Floyd were arrested and held in the Pitt County Detention Center on a $30,000 secured bond set by a Pitt County Magistrate.
