ALL OVER: Austin Roscoe goes up for a fast-break layup. Terra Ceia was all over the court on Thursday against Albemarle. He was one of three Knights to record a double-double.

PANTEGO — Tyler Hendrix, Chase Furlough and Austin Roscoe each had double-doubles and Messiah Barnes scored a game-high 20 points as Terra Ceia stomped Albemarle 88-32.

The Knights combined for 17 steals to help fuel their transition offense. They also won the rebounding battle 57-37 to produce plenty of second-chance opportunities.

Terra Ceia jumped out to a 27-8 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 46-18 by halftime.

Antonio Foreman scored 10 points to lead Albemarle. The Knights had five players score in double figures.

The two sides will meet again on Tuesday in Elizabeth City.

PINETOWN — Manteo’s early offensive onslaught wasn’t enough to put away Northside on Thursday. The Panthers withstood Hannah Midgette’s 17 points and exceptional shooting by the visiting Lady Redskins to win, 56-52.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Lady Panthers.

They found themselves trailing Manteo 20-8 after the first quarter. Northside’s defense clamped down in the second quarter and conceded just five points. Meanwhile, the girls were able to score 13 to make it a 25-21 game at halftime.

The Lady Panthers’ offense exploded for 35 points in the second half. They were aided, in part, by Manteo’s 21 turnovers.

The girls hope to keep the ball rolling against Bear Grass on Monday.

END THE SKID: Rachel Lang looks for a teammate to pass to against First Flight. The Lady Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak by squeaking out a 56-52 win over Manteo on Thursday.

PANTEGO — Catherine Meijer had a double-double with game highs in points (22) and rebounds (14) as Terra Ceia rolled past Albemarle, 75-35. Rebecca Harrison and Audrey Gates also scored in double figures to help lead the offensive explosion.

The Lady Knights had more offensive rebounds (29) than defensive (27). That helped them earn a plethora of second chances, which fueled their offense and kept the ball out of the hands of the visitors.

The free-throw line was Terra Ceia’s only weakness. The Lady Knights earned a dozen trips to the charity stripe, but converted on just 7-of-24 chances.

Terra Ceia will hope to win another Tarheel Conference matchup on Tuesday at Albemarle.

PINETOWN — Northside won its third game in four tries Thursday night when it hosted Manteo. The Panthers scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to close out on the surging Redskins, 64-56.

The Panthers owned a 33-24 lead at halftime, but stumbled out of the gate in the second half. They mustered just eight points in the third period. It allowed Manteo to come within two possessions, 41-35, entering the final eight minutes.

Northside returns to action on Monday to host Bear Grass in Coastal Plains action.
