S.W. SNOWDEN SKYPE SESSIONS: Joy McCracken’s fourth-grade media class has made friends with another fourth- grade class clear across the state in Iredell County. While reviewing the North Carolina School Library Media Association blog, McCracken saw a request for Skype class partners and immediately began a dialogue with the teacher, Mary Kenyon. Kenyon’s class is in Mooresville at East Mooresville Intermediate. The students from both SWS and EMI have met using video conferencing software. Some of the information exchanges included local weather, what each class was currently studying, where they go on field trips, local festivals, famous landmarks for their county and other county trivia. McCracken’s students will Skype several more times with Kenyon’s class during the semester. A cumulative project will consist of preparing a county artifact box for the networking classes.
