NORTHEAST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THEATER TRIP: On March 18, 13 Northeast Elementary music students studying theater under the direction of Dawn Wilson had the opportunity to take a field trip to East Carolina University. The students experienced a full campus tour guided by an ECU student, a tour of the entire theater department, including classrooms, performance spaces, costumes, paint shop, etc., and a tour of Wright Auditorium led by two Storybook Theatre students and the character of “The Giver.” They also enjoyed a trip to the student store, Starbucks and dinner in the campus’ dining hall. The students were able to meet the cast and crew of “The Giver” from ECU’s Storybook Theatre and ask questions prior to dinner, and later watched the evening performance. It was a special moment at the end of the show when NES students were called to the stage to get a group photo with the cast. Overall, it was an exciting and fun trip made possible at no cost to the students, thanks to a grant funded by Target. In the words of Karen Roman, “The tour was really inspiring. I liked everything about it, and I am thankful that we had a chance to go to ECU. I just want to say thank you again for the wonderful trip.” NES students that attended were: Macee Adams, Justin Bell, Aaliyah Carter, Kaylee Christenberry, Yessenia Espinoza-Acosta, Johnetta Gatlin, Tyler Kirk, Robert Ramirez-Martinez, Chandler Nimons, Karen Roman, Josh Spruill, Erin Taylor and Madison Walters.
