Students graduate from nurse aide program

Four students successfully completed the Nurse Aide I program at Beaufort County Community College. Students completing the day program were Freddie Blakely, Ashley Bond, Daneilya Whitney and Sara Woods.

The class began Nov. 17, and ended April 19. The students completed the Nurse Aide I clinical component at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Washington.

Each graduate was presented a certificate in honor of his or her completion of the program.

The Nurse Aide I course prepares students to provide personal care and basic nursing skills for elderly adults. Emphasis is placed on the role of the nurse aide, communication, documentation, infection control, safety, resident’s rights, common disorders/diseases of body systems, aging changes, personal care and grooming, accurate measurement of vital signs, elimination, nutrition and death and dying.  Upon satisfactory course completion of the class/lab and clinical component, students are eligible to take the state lab and written exam. Successful completion of the state exam ensures listing as a Nurse Aide I on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.
