JONATHAN ROWE | DAILY NEWS PROUD PATRIOT: A display of flags along the streets of downtown Washington has been coordinated by Bob Henkel, who founded the project, for the past five years. At its inception, the initiative to beautify the historic district and add a certain flare to compliment downtown events only included American flags, according to Henkel. Since, he has added commemorative ’76 American flags, as well as state flags, representing all 50 states. In total, there are about 100 flags on display, just in time for this weekend’s Marine Market and Beaufort County Traditional Music Festival. The initiative is in cooperation with the Washington Harbor District Alliance, which asked Henkel to coordinate the display.
