Moore advances to Class 3-A semifinals

WINSTON-SALEM -- Jock Moore advanced to today's semifinals with a pair of wins on the opening day of the NCHSAA Class 3-A state wrestling championships.
The eastern regional champion and the No. 1 seed in the east opened Friday's action by pinning North Iredell's Jimmy Martin in 1:22 during the heavyweight match. Moore (25-3) then took a 1-0 decision over Southern Durham's Kennan Orr in the championship quarterfinals.
Josh Jakubowski (28-7) opened tournament action by pinning Parkland's Alex Blum in just 14 seconds at 152 pounds. The senior then fell to Fred T. Foard's David Brandon by a 7-0 decision.
Nathan Jakubowski (23-11), wrestling at 112 pounds, lost his first-round match. He was pinned by Morehead's Justin Case in 5:55. Jakubowski, the east No. 3 seed, was then pinned by Ragsdale's Kyle Kanaga in 3:29 to end his season.
Keith Harper (14-17), at 119 pounds, also saw his season come to a close. He lost his first match by pin in 1:01 to Eastern Randolph's Kane Long, and then lost by decision to Triton's Ronnie Edwards on the consolation round.
As a team, Washington is in a tie for 26th place with 10 points.
Atlantic 7 finals
BUXTON -- Camden County made it a sweep in the Atlantic 7 Conference finals.
The Bruins won both the boys' and girls' finals. Camden beat Columbia 53-51 in the boys' finals while the Bruins topped Cape Hatteras 50-46 in the girls' finals.
