Mrs. Velma Ree Taylor Matkins, 85, of 3581 Bear Grass Road, Williamston, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Biggs Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony D. Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Matkins was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 10, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Duard Taylor and Sally Jane Crisp Taylor. On Oct. 5, 1935, she married William Julius Matkins, who preceded her in death in April 1974. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann Matkins Taylor and husband Dan J. Taylor of Bear Grass; two sons, William Julius Matkins Jr. and wife Brenda of Carrollton, Va., and Jerry Taylor Matkins and wife Robin of Jamesville; two brothers, Joe Henry Taylor of Yorktown, Va., and Glenn Edward Taylor of Washington; three sisters, Alta Rae Taylor Glosson of Yorktown, Va.; Geraldine Taylor Leonard and Sally Joyce Taylor Glosson, both of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Biggs Funeral Home.
