The Washington High School baseball team dropped its second game of the season Wednesday, falling to Edenton 5-3.
Edenton scored in the first inning when Ben Evans walked and later scored after consecutive singles by Judson Smith, Brian Swicegood and Jim Mills.
Edenton tacked on four more runs in the fifth on three hits. Washington also made two of its four errors in that frame as the Aces took a 5-1 lead.
Washington scored two runs in the seventh inning. Travis Rogerson singled and Jason Burnette walked. Brent Jamison and Cory Calloway each grounded out to score Rogerson and Burnette.
The Pam Pack (0-2) scored a run in the second. Scott Alligood was hit by a pitch. Two outs later, Jamison tripled to right to drive in Alligood, tieing the game at 1-all.
Todd Ange took the loss, pitching the first four innings. He gave up five runs, none earned, on five hits. He also walked four and struck out five. Billy Moore pitched the last three innings, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out five.
Washington goes to J.H. Rose on Friday.

Valenti takes first in two events
GREENVILLE -- Washington's track and field teams participated in a four-team event at D.H. Conley Wednesday that included Jamesville and South Lenoir.
For the girls, Gina Valenti took first in the 1,600-meter (5:58) and 3,200-meter runs (13:39). Shima Thigpen was second in the high jump with a distance of 4-4. She also placed second in the 100-yard dash in 19.50. Candace Cogdell was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.34.
In boys' competition, Frenchie Wiggins was third in the shot put with a distance of 38-0. Dan Fitzgerald was third in the high jump (5-4) while Adrian Langley was third in the triple jump (33-0). Michael White was third in the long jump (17-0).
Washington goes to D.H. Conley for a meet next Thursday.
Northside boys open with win
CHOCOWINITY -- The Northside boys' track team opened its season with a 59-58 victory over Perquimans Tuesday. Perquimans took the girls' contest, 76-40.
In the boys' competition, Brett Perry (118 feet), Josh Woolard (98.1) and Justin Waters (97-10) took first, second and third in the discus competition. Perry took first in the shot put with a throw of 38-6. Shaun Hopkins was third at 36-8.
Terrance Leggett took first in the long jump with a distance of 18-1/2 while Trey Bowen was third at 17-3 1/2. Brandon Davenport was second in the 110 hurdles in 21.43. Leggett was second in the 100 yard dash in 11.89. Grant Culbertson took first in the 1,600-meter run (5:21) and the 3,200-meter run (11:54).
Heath Everett was second in the 300-meter hurdles while Bowen finished second in the 200-yard dash in 25.40. The relay team of Brandon Davenport, Greg Barrow, Jordan Davis and Kyle Cox took first in the 1,600-meter run in 5:11.42. Leggett, Thomas Hamilton, Everett and Bowen won the 800-meter relay in 14:48.5. The foursome also took first in the 400-meter relay in 49.99.
In the girls' competition, Danielle Huffman placed first in the discus with a throw of 67-1. Deborah Satterthwaite was third in the long jump with a distance of 10-1. Danielle Selby took first in the 1,600-meter in 6:35. Katie Hudson was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 1:09.71 while Megan Waters was third in 1:11.87.
Selby was first in the 800-meter run in 2:55.03 while Natalie Smith was second in 3:14. Amanda Preston ran the 3,200-meter run in 14:26 while the 1,600-meter relay team of Katie Hardison, Renae Braddy, Allison Oliver and Shaye Wagaman took first in 5:47.69.
Brittany Sullivan, Preston, Smith and Selby had no opposition in the 3,200-meter run and finished in 12:37.32.
