Williamston baseball loses season opener

WILLIAMSTON -- Williamston's varsity baseball team got its high school season off to a slow start as North Pitt took a 2-0 victory Wednesday.
Williamston lost its opener last season then went on to win every single game until it reached the Class 1-A state finals.
Chip Wall got the victory for North Pitt, giving up five hits and working out of a couple of jams to preserve the victory. Williamston, the defending Class 1-A Eastern Regional champs, never got a runner past third base but threatened in the seventh.
Taylor Goodrich singled and was called out at second base on a fielder's choice by Trey Warren, who was erased on the play. The umpire said that Goodrich made contact with the shortstop and was thus out on the play.
North Pitt got its first run in the first inning. With two outs, Chris Roebuck walked and scored on a single by Marcus Highsmith.
Dee Eubanks took the loss for Williamston, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits. He struck out seven and walked three. Warren pitched the seventh, giving up a hit and striking out two.
Williamston hosts Edenton today at 4:30.

Jamesville wins in 10
JAMESVILLE -- Pinch-hitter Kyle Price scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Jamesville pulled out a 4-3 victory over Southside Wednesday.
William Brown walked to start the frame for the Bullets. Price came in to pinch run and scored when Danny Reason's sacrifice bunt was overthrown to first and sailed into right field.
Jamesville finished with 10 hits and scored a run in each of the first three innings. In the first, Joey Harrison singled and scored on a single by WIlliam Brown after two passed balls moved Harrison to third. Harrison singled in Bobby Clifton, who also singled, in the second, and Brown singled and scored in the third on a double by Clifton.
Southside got four hits in the fifth to tie it. Zack Squires, who took the loss on the mound for the Seahawks, singled in two runs that tied it at 3-all.
Danny Reason got the win for Jamesville, giving up three hits, striking out four and walking one over the last five innings. Starter Blake Perry gave up three runs on three hits, striking out seven and walking four in the first five innings.
Jamesville goes to Northside today.

Jamesville softball wins
Jamesville -- Jamesville freshman pitcher Heather Mobley pitched a one-hitter as the Bullets beat Southside 14-1 on Wednesday.
Mobley struck out four and walked one. She gave up a leadoff hit in the first inning that led to Southside's only run. Ashley Nanney singled and later scored on a passed ball.
Jamesville got six runs in the second on six walks, a hit batter and a hit by Blair Ange that drove in two runs. In the fourth, Jamesville used two walks and three hits to score eight more runs.
Jamesville goes to Northside today.

Washington soccer wins
The Washington girls' soccer team picked up its first victory on Wednesday, beating D.H. Conley 4-0.
Kristen Whitehead scored off an assist by Elizabeth Jarvis for a 1-0 lead. Sarah Allen and Emily Cochran also netted goals as the Pam Pack led 3-0 at the half. Mandy Gurkin assisted on Cochran's goal. Samantha Yates scored the second-half goal on an assist by Caroline Jones.
Washington (1-3-1) goes to Croatan today.
Two straight for JV Pam Pack
Getting a solid effort on the mound from Stephen Everette, and some big-time hitting, the Washington Pam Pack junior varsity baseball team picked up a 10-2 win over Ayden-Grifton on Wedneday.
Everette went the full seven innings, fanning eight and walking two. The Pack (2-1) also had several players with multiple hit games.
The Pack scored four times in the second and four times in the fifth to break the game open.
Alan Swain, Dennis Butts and Dusty Duckwall all had three hits for the Pack. Everette, Corey Rogerson and Mat Tanner had two hits apiece, while Scott Wilkerson also had a hit. Swain, Everette, Butts and Tanner scored twice apiece.
The Pack visits Ayden-Grifton on Friday.
Bath falls in opener
MATTAMUSKEET -- The Bath middle school softball team fell 20-10 to Cape Hatteras in its season opener on Wednesday.
Brooke Modlin highlighted Bath's offense with a two-run homer, as she went 1-for-3. Also for Bath, Casey Lewis was 1-for-2 and Meredith Duke 1-for-3.
Bath returns to action Tuesday at Jamesville.
P.S. Jones bounces back
The P.S. Jones Middle School softball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to beat West Craven 6-5 in double overtime Wednesday.
West Craven rallied from a two-goal deficit and scored in the last minute of regulation to force overtime. P.S. Jones (4-1) won it with a penalty kick by Stephen Woodward, an eighth-grader, in the second overtime.
Daniel Sawyer scored the Demons' first goal to tie it at 1-all. Archie Griffin, Travis Sadler and Allen Hodges each scored a goal before Sadler netted another one late in the second half.
P.S. Jones goes to Broad Creek Monday.
