Verna J. Gibbs

Mrs. Verna Jarvis Gibbs, 78, formerly of 1706 Goshen Road in the Middletown community, and more recently a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Cross Creek.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Middletown Christian Church Memorial Cemetery with Scott Sukeforth, Steve Bryan and Doug Gibbs officiating.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in Swan Quarter on Feb. 28, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Justus G. and Wilhelmina Gordon Jarvis. She graduated from the former Swan Quarter School. She was married to Burnell Linwood Gibbs, who preceded her in death in 1988. She worked for many years with Farrow's Red and White Grocery in Engelhard before declining health led to retirement. She was a member of the former Middletown Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, William Burnell "Billy" Gibbs of Engelhard; one daughter, Dianna Joyce G. Daniels of Engelhard; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James L. "Jimmy" Gibbs in 1995; and two sisters, Mae Jarvis Hodges and Magdalene Jarvis Moseley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter.
