Mr. Merlin E. "Skip" Holmes, 83, died Thursday, March 13, 2003.
Mr. Holmes, a former resident of New York state, was employed as a music instructor with the Elmira, N.Y., public schools. He had made his home in Pitt County since 1976. He was a member of the Literary Volunteers of America.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Keith Holmes Sr.; a sister, Margaret Baker; and a nephew, Peter Baker.
Survivors include two sons, Michael D. Holmes of New York, N.Y., and Douglas Van Holmes of Denton, Texas; three nephews, Dr. Keith Holmes Jr. and wife, Susan, of Greenville, Steve Holmes of Grimesland and John Baker of Grimesland; three great-nephews, Tim Baker of Chocowinity and Christopher Holmes and Benjamin Holmes, both of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Edith Holmes Williams of Grimesland; and a special friend, Bunnie Cayton Rowe of Chocowinity.
Family and friends will gather at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
