Robert "Bob" Grant Brice, 59, of 306 E. 11th St., Washington, N.C., died Thursday morning at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with the Rev. Craig Richardson and the Rev. Sally Plowman officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens with military rites by the U.S. Navy. John Scott Winfield, Paul Bright, Charles Belote, Claude Dupree, Seth Edwards, Jimmy Fortescue and Scott Ellis will serve as pallbearers.
The family will join friends this evening, March 21, 2003, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service.
Mr. Brice was born on Oct. 14, 1943 in Kenton County, Covington, Ky. He was the son of the late John Grant and Jewel Maxwell Brice. He graduated from Beachwood High School in Fort Mitchell, Ky., in 1961 and from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1966. He served in various destroyer commands in the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets and retired from the U.S. Navy in December 1970 as lieutenant. In 1970, he moved to Washington and was employed with American Greeting Cards. He attended East Carolina University and taught computer programming while obtaining his MBA degree in 1972. He joined National Spinning Company as a computer programmer and remained with the company until 1996. During the 1995-96 school year, he taught at Pungo Christian Academy and also coached basketball. He later joined Beaufort County Community College as a computer programmer instructor and worked until his recent battle with cancer. On May 24, 1998, he married Catreta Bowen Andrews.
Survivors include his wife, Catreta Bowen Andrews Brice; his stepmother, Sudie Toler Brice of Washington; four stepsons, Lindsey Moore Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Raleigh; Lt. Commander U.S. Navy Michael Lydane Moore of Jacksonville, Fla.; Teddy Griekspoor and his wife, Gayle; and Geoffrey Andrews and his wife, Sonya, both of Washington; two stepdaughters, Julie G. Hunter and her husband, Danny, of Washington and April M. Stotesberry and her husband, Don, of Plymouth; seven grandchildren, Stephen Griekspoor, Sara Griekspoor, Haley Hunter, Katelyn Hunter, Aimee Featherstone, Lelon Stotesberry and Sidney Andrews; two great-grandchildren, Marjorie Griekspoor and Summer Griekspoor; two nephews, John Brice and Tom Brice; and one niece, Susie Brice Haynie.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta McInnis Brice, on May 5, 1996; one daughter, Sonya Brice; and his brother, John K. Brice.
