Mrs. Florence Cherry Cox, 78, of 309 Cedar Lane in Rosedale, Washington, died Wednesday morning, March 26, 2003, at her residence.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Craig Hagen officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Tracy McRoy, Perry Carrow, Hugh James Cherry Sr., Hugh James Cherry Jr., Sam Grist and Robbie Leggett will serve as pallbearers.
The family will join friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington and other times at the home.
Mrs. Cox was born Nov. 12, 1924 in Beaufort County. She was the daughter of the late Hugh L. and Lucy Bowen Cherry. On Feb. 21, 1943, she married Josh Tayloe Cox. Mrs. Cox was an inspector for National Spinning Company and was a member at Cherry Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Josh T. Cox; three daughters, Betty Cox Norden of Chocowinity, Josie Cox Pippin and husband, Gordon, of Bath and Frances Cox Smith and husband, Mel G., of Washington; two sisters, Maggie C. Kelley and Pattie C. Banks, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Melanie Florence McRoy, Christina Leigh Carrow, Don Wayne Chandler, Joshua Chandler, G.K. Pippin and Charlie A. Pippin and four great-grandchildren, Courtney Carrow, Chandler Carrow, McKenna McRoy and Trey Pippin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Hugh L. Cherry Jr.
