Mrs. Thelma Moore Simmons, 89, of 118 Bradley Road, Plymouth, died Friday, March 21, 2003, in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in Uniontown Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Jamesville with Bishop Daniel Boston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Martin County on April 14, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Bill and Ellen McNair Moore. She was married to David Simmons who preceded her in death. She had been employed as a facility technician. She was a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. She was a member of Uniontown Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Jamesville.
Survivors include three daughters, Mildred Simmons and Elizabeth Gertrude Simmons, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Ernestine Stevens of Plymouth; three sons, David "Bro" Simmons of Jamaica Queens, N.Y.; Jasper "Boo Boo" Simmons of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Clarence Simmons of Plymouth; one stepson, Willie Lee Spruill of Virginia Beach, Va.; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pauline Simmons and one son, James Henry Simmons.
Arrangements are by Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
