Mr. Andrew Rothemere “Andy” Alcox, age 83, a former resident of 190 Washington Harbor died Friday January 19, 2007 at Britthaven Nursing Home of Washington.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday January 21, 2007 at the First Christian Church of Washington officiated by Dr. Michael Price. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Cecil D. Smith, Johnny Bailey, Lex Mann, Stanley Lander, Fred Barrett and David Weatherly will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Alcox was born in Hyde County on December 4, 1923 son of the late Andrew Rowe Alcox and the late Rosa Harris Alcox. He graduated from the Sladesville School and continued his education at Kings Business College. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Hare who preceded him in death on April 2, 1997. Mr. Alcox worked in the Fertilizer business and retired in 1995 from the Blount-Midgette Company. He was a member of First Christian Church where he was involved in many church activities, a member of Washington Lodge 675 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and Washington York Rite. Mr. Alcox volunteered at the Beaufort County Hospital and Meals on Wheels as long as his health permitted.
Survivors include a daughter: Diana A. Tew and her husband Grant of Washington; two grandsons: Grant A. Smith of Greenville, NC and Mark M. Smith of Wilmington. Mr. Alcox was preceded in death by a brother: Leonard A. Alcox.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to8:30 p.m. Saturday January 20, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mr. Alcox’s daughter: Diana Tew located at 105 Marsh Road, Washington, NC.
Mr. Alcox’s family would like to thank the staff of Britthaven Nursing Home of Washington for their care and compassion shown Mr. Andy during his stay there.
