Mr. Joseph Edward “Joe” Lewis, Jr., age 70, a resident of 300 Tolers Ave., Blounts Creek, NC died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, NC.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church in Blounts Creek officiated by Pastor Joel Cannon. Burial will follow in the Toler Family Cemetery in Blounts Creek.
Mr. Joe was born in Beaufort County on April 25, 1936 son of the late Joseph Edward Lewis, Sr. and the late Mollie Willis Lewis. He was a 1955 graduate of Aurora High School. Mr. Joe married the former Sylvia Angeline Toler on August 22, 1958, who survives. He was a foreman with the former Texas Gulf and retired in 1997. Mr. Joe also was a self employed farmer, a member of Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church and a honorary member of Blueberry Hunting Club.
Surviving along with Mr. Joe’s wife Sylvia of the home is a daughter: Deborah Griffin and her husband Greg of Greenville; two sons: Ray Lewis and his wife Debra of Blounts Creek and Roy Lewis and his wife Allison of Greenville; two sisters: Elsie Fields of Blounts Creek and Dorothy Price of Stonewall, NC; one brother: Tony Lewis of Blounts Creek; four grandchildren: Stephanie Porter, Samuel Griffin, Amie Lewis and Lindsay Lewis and two great grandchildren: Jaden and Alex Spain.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
