Mr. Charles W. Croom, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Cross Creek Health Care in Swan Quarter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Hillside Funeral Service with Rev. Jack Franks officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Charles was born in Pitt County on November 17, 1929, son of the late Charles Wesley Croom, Sr. and Ethel Ives Croom. He was a graduate of Ayden High School and Oak Ridge Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Charles married Ann Edmondson of Tarboro in 1954. Ann preceded him in death in 2003 after nearly 50 years of marriage. They lived in Greenville for about 25 years where he worked in sales. Charles was active in the Pitt County Wildlife Club and assisted his wife as a Girl Scout volunteer. After moving to the Schram’s Beach area of Belhaven, he and Ann became leaders in the organization and development of the Sydney Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his children, Kit G. Olrogge and husband, Shelton of Blounts Creek; Cherry C. Rouse and husband, Randy of Pantego; Deenie C. Ballard of Naples, Fl; Rebecca C. Ivey and husband, Tomie of Bath; and C. Wesley Croom, III and wife, Tammy of Stonewall; grandchildren, Mason Olrogge; Bradley Rouse and wife, Rachel; Kathleen Rouse; Jordan and Sam Ivey; Jake and Kirstie Croom.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ethel C. Matthews.
