William R. Harris

Mr. William Robert Harris, 77, of Robersonville, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Harris was the son of the late Willis Paul and Annie Mae Davis Harris. In 1952, he graduated from N.C. State University. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. On Dec. 14, 1963, he married Sharon Daughtry Harris, who survives. He was district supervisor of the Martin County Soil and Conservation Service for 17 years. He served for nearly 20 years as a director of the Martin County Farm Bureau and had previously served as president of the Robersonville Country Club. He was a member of First Christian Church for 67 years where he served as chairman of the board and as a deacon. He was treasurer of the CMF for 20 years and served on various committees in the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Robbie Harris Walters of Wilmington, and Anna Margaret Harris Ivory of Peachtree, Ga.; one son, William Robert “Bob” Harris Jr. of Robersonville; one brother, Paul Harris of Robersonville; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Anne Harris.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, Robersonville, and other times at 202 Hargrove Drive, Robersonville.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or to Robersonville Rescue Squad.
