Mr. Josh T. Cox, age 87, of 1624 Highland Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Craig Hagen officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2007 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington.
Mr. Cox was born November 17, 1919 in Pitt County. He was the son of the late William J. Cox and Pennie Melissa Smith Cox. On February 21, 1942, he married Lucy Florence Cherry, who preceded him in death on March 26, 2003. Mr. Cox was a retired farmer, retired gentleman farmer and former employee of Grady White Boats and Flanders Filters. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a charter member of Cherry Chapel Baptist Church, which was later changed to Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a deacon until his health began to fail. He always had a deep love and devotion to his family and his church.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Cox Norden of New Bern, Josie Cox Pippin and her husband, Gordon of Bath, and Frances Cox Smith and her husband, Mel of Morehead City; six grandchildren, Melanie Florence McRoy, Christina Leigh Carrow, Don Wayne Chandler, Joshua Chandler, G.K. Pippin and Charlie A. Pippin, and six great-grandchildren, Courtney Carrow, Chandler Carrow, McKenna McRoy, Trey Pippin, Ashley Pippin, and Alexis Pippin.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, William Charles Cox, Maude C. Tyer, Daisy C. Warren, Ada C. Walls, Alice Mae C. Hardison, H.B. Cox, Kathaleen C. Freeman, Fred Cox and Gladys C. Brown.
