Mr. Nelson Howard Capps, age 55, a resident of 854 Swan Point Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington with Rev. Darryll C. Evans and Thelbert Leggett officiating. Aaron Adams, Marvin Alligood, Jr., Jim Beach, Richard Beach, Bill Burgess, William Cochran, Sydney Cohn, David Curtis, Ray Faulkner, Bobby Hudspeth, Mike Kelley, David Nichols, Steve Scott, Glenn Simpson, Bill Stembler and Jimmy Walker will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at 1202 North Respess Street, Washington, NC.
Nelson was born July 19, 1951 in Johnston County. He was the son of Betty Hazel Jackson Capps and the late Howard Nelson Capps. On November 19, 2005, he married the former Betty Stewart. He graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News, VA and started in the building profession with his father, Howard Capps. He later worked with Richard Beach Builders as a superintendent over the following projects: Knapp-Sanders Building located at the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill, NC; the Carolina Mudcats Stadium in Zebulon, NC; the Viquest Center in Greenville, NC; East Carolina Pirates Club Seating at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, NC; and the Bob Martin Agricultural Center in Williamston, NC. He also worked with Barnhill Construction on numerous projects. Most recently, he was a Superintendent with WIMCO Construction, remodeling Manteo High School in Manteo, NC. Nelson was an avid fisherman, golfer, boater and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Stewart Capps of Washington; his mother, Betty Hazel Jackson Capps; three daughters, Lisa Capps and Anthony Edwards of Newport News, VA, Angela Capps Barbee and husband, Daniel of Sterling, VA, and Mary Elizabeth Stewart Robertson of Washington, NC; one brother, Larry Capps and wife, Kim of Newport News, VA; two grandchildren, Eric and Evan Edwards; nephew, Jonathan Capps and two nieces, Hannah and Lydia Capps; and his five adoring dogs, Gabby, Bailey, Christy, Nickel and BoBo.
