Mr. Walter Lee (“Nizer/Clute”) Carter Sr., 65, of 812 Yeatesville Road, Bath, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Pungo District Hospital, Belhaven.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Elder Sterling Tripp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 10, 1941. He was the son of the late Burly and Lottie Hopkins Carter. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Trudie Bailey Carter, who survives. He was engaged in farming prior to declining health.
Survivors include two daughters, Tomyra Delamar and Ebony Knight, both of Washington; six sons, Walter L. Carter Jr. of the Acre Station community, Glen E. Carter and Elder Gregory Carter, both of Washington, Eric Carter and Kyreeck D. Carter, both of Bath, and Torico Carter of Greenville; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores Holmes of Orlando, Fla.; and three brothers, Essador Carter and Dick Moore of Bath, and Willie Carter of Kenly.
He was preceded in death by four children, Vickie, Rickie, Strick and Tearie Carter and siblings, Evelyn Moore, Robert Carter and James Carter.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements will be announced by Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
