Melba B. Davenport

Mrs. Melba Berry Davenport, 63, of Columbia, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, with J. Emory Midyette officiating. Burial will follow in Saint David’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Davenport was born in Hyde County on July 27, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Stephen L. and Ludie Jones Berry. She was married to James Albert Davenport, who survives. She was a homemaker and a seamstress with Plymouth Garment Company.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya D. Smith of Washington, and Amy D. Hassell of Clayton; three sons, Dean Davenport of Plymouth, Wayne Davenport of Edenton, and Vance Davenport of Columbia; one sister, Josephine B. Clifton of Creswell; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Sadler, Vivian O’Neal and Dorothy Midyette and two brothers, Stephen Berry and Ray Berry.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, and other times at the home.
